Govt. Sanskrit College Samdong was established in the year 1997 at Gyalshing, West Sikkim. Since its inception, the college has been affiliated to Sampurnananda Sanskrit University located in UP.
In the year 2010, the college was shifted to Samdong, East Sikkim. As of now, the college is located in Samdong with a permanent campus in an area of 9.16 acres. The college offers BA shastri course to students seeking to complete their higher education in the field of Sanskrit. It offers subjects like Sanskrit Grammar, Sanskrit Sahitya, Jyotisha, Puran Itehas along with Hindi, Nepali and English. It is a unique Institution providing educational opportunities to students in the state as well as from neighboring states of the North-East, as well as neighbouring countries like Bhutan and Nepal.
As of now, the curriculum followed is dictated by Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, however, from the year 2024- the college has sought affiliation from Kanchendjonga State Univeristy – a Sikkim State University. This has been done with an aim to facilitate a diverse range of courses as well as to adapt to the New Education Policy. This new trajectory has been charted so as to open up new corridors of opportunities for the students and seek new avenues that will further benefit the students.
